The school was opened in 1964 and is situated on Harmony Hill, which links the Belsize Road, Lisburn with the Moss Road, Lambeg. It enjoys a pleasant situation on a spacious, attractive and mature site that includes 2 large playgrounds and an extensive recreational area laid out in grass.

The majority of pupils live in close proximity to the school and the current enrolment is 700 pupils. Approximately 18% of this enrolment is made up of children who are 'transient'. The accommodation is well maintained and comprises 28 permanent classrooms, library, music/television room, assembly/physical education hall, staffroom, administrative block, meals kitchen and dining hall.

A Nursery Unit with 52 part-time places is proposed for the 2000-01 School Year.

The current teaching staff is Principal plus 28 full-time assistant teachers and one full -time remedial teacher. The school is enabled to draw upon a wide range of experience and expertise through its well-developed system of year group convenors and subject co-ordinators. Teachers, ancillary staff and pupils work closely together in order to create a welcoming and friendly situation in which learning can take place.

Harmony Hill Primary School aims to provide a rich and varied curriculum in order to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual and physical development of each child in an environment that is pleasant, caring and happy. Alongside the development of competence in basic skills, emphasis is placed upon developing confidence, self-esteem and consideration for others.

High standards of work and personal achievement are expected and maintained throughout the school community. School uniform is worn by all pupils and an emphasis is placed on punctual attendance and good conduct.

Educational visits form an integral part of the school's work and wide ranges of extra-curricular activities are undertaken. These include soccer, hockey, netball, minirugby, swimming, Scripture Union, choirs, orchestra and recorders. A Young Investigators' Club exists for P6 pupils who are interested in science and a Tufty Club is in operation for younger children.

The school makes full use of the expert tuition in brass, woodwind and stringed instruments that is available from the staff of the South Eastern Music Centre. There is tuition in folk guitar for the pupils of P6 and P 7.

Harmony Hill has very close cross-community links with neighbouring schools. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their children's education and are highly motivated, supportive and appreciative in relation to the various opportunities provided to involve them in the life of the school. A Parents' Group, strongly supports the work of the school, and undertakes a varied programme of fund-raising, activities and social and information/educational evenings. The members of the Board of Governors are very keenly interested in all aspects of the school and actively support the work of the staff.
