Admissions No.36 Enrolment No. 251

The present school building, which was opened in September 1965 is situated on a twenty-five acre site off the main Belfast Road into Lisburn just before Wallace Avenue. Spacious grounds with lawns, mature trees and well-planned play and amenity areas offer tremendous scope for the current enrolment of 243 pupils.

The well kept accommodation comprises 8 permanent classrooms, library and resources centre/TV room, assembly/physical education hall, staff-room, administrative area, medical room and two mobile classrooms. Two dining halls and a meals kitchen are shared with Fort Hill Integrated College and have recently been modernised.

The current staffing establishment is Principal plus 9 full-time assistant teachers. The staff is also supported by a part-time teacher of Special Needs, a part-time teacher for the Reception Class, a full-time primary 1 classroom assistant and a part-time Reception classroom assistant. Their experience and expertise is effectively used in a system of subject co-ordinators and various curricular groupings. Meetings of staff, of co-ordinators and the senior management contribute to the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum. The secretary, caretaker and other ancillary staff complete a team who are sensitive to the needs and potential of each child.

The school aims to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual and physical development of each child in a caring environment. Emphasis is also placed upon developing a sense of self-respect, confidence, consideration for others and their property and the ability to function together in co-operative groups. A high standard of work and behaviour is expected from all pupils and good attendance, punctuality and good manners are the norm.

Sport is an important part of school life and our teams have earned a fine reputation over the years. Our ample grounds give space for a wide range of sporting activities and swimming forms an important aspect of the P4-P7 curriculum. A school choir also functions for P5-P7 and younger children enjoy membership of the Tufty Club. Educational visits to places of local interest as well as to the mainland figure prominently in the school work. Extra-curricular activities include football for both boys and girls, netball, hockey, cycling proficiency, Scripture Union and a Badminton Club. Tuition is provided by the SEELB Music service for both brass and woodwind.

Pastoral care is an important concern of Fort Hill Primary School. Parents are invited to consult teachers at regular intervals to discuss with them any matters concerning their children's progress and welfare. They are also encouraged to take a keen interest in the affairs of the school. In the past parents have been very supportive in attending various school functions organised by the PTA and generously raise money to purchase extra resources for the school.

The members of the Board of Governors are keenly interested in all aspects of the school and support the work of the staff.

Application forms may be obtained from the school and the Board of Govenors will be involved in the application of admissions criteria.

Interested parents and pupils are invited to visit the school or seek further information on any aspect of school organisation, curricular or pastoral care etc. Please telephone the Principal Mr J Walsh at school (Lisburn 02892 664505) to make further arrangements.
